Answer this: Who are you writing your book for? Well, if you are writing it in 30, 60, or 90 days, then you are writing it for yourself. On the flip side, if you take six months to a year to truly invest in writing your book, then you will be writing it to help your readers. Furthermore, when I pick up a book from a new author, I can tell from the moment I begin reading it, how much time they invested in it. When it is apparent that they took the quick and easy route, I close the book and toss it to the side…just like everyone else does with it.

So, if you want to be a serious author who impacts their readers, then read on to find out how long your book should take you to write. Again, on the flip side, if you want to write your book for selfish reasons (to launch your career), then by all means go the quick and easy route. However, if you decide to take the quick and easy route, I will assure you, you will be a 3o day author and your results of your business will prove it.

I, Elena, am in business to set my clients up to build, possess, and sustain an Empire. Therefore, quick and easy is not what I offer. Instead, I offer you teaching that will produce world-class material–material that is needed to be an Empire Creator. So, here is the realistic time frame for writing a world-class book (especially for those who have never wrote a world-class book).

The process first begins with organizing your thoughts. Take out a sheet of paper and begin writing bullet points of every topic, story, quote, and lesson you want to be sure to include in your book. This process alone could take you 30 days, because each day a new subject will capture your attention.

Next, you must take all of this content and sort it out. What content goes together and can be combined into one chapter? What content isn’t “meaty” enough and needs more added to it? What content truly doesn’t fit the genre of your book and needs to be removed? What order should this content go in? These are just some of the questions to consider and can also take another 30 days. For one, after organizing it all the first time, you will more than likely find that you will want to change things up a bit after taking a second look at it at a later time.

Next, you need to build an audience while writing your book. Why? Well, watch this video to find out. This step could take about a week.

Next, you need to understand there are 19 parts to a world-class book.  Consider 18 parts are not your chapters. Therefore, you have an average of 20 chapters to write, plus 18 other parts. Now, this process is not difficult when you know the DNA to writing that Transform’s Author and Publication Academy teaches, but it is time consuming when it is done correctly and with strategic planning. Moreover, some of these parts must be completed by your collaborators. For example, you don’t write the Foreword…somebody else does. Also, you need other people to write the reviews. As much as I would love to tell you people write reviews the same day you ask, they do not. Even more, they must first read your book, which also takes time.

Let’s skip ahead to the chapters of your book. Yes, there is a chapter DNA to follow that dates clear back to Napoleon Hill. This DNA does make it easier to write a book, and even a bit quicker. However, when you are investing in your readers by taking the proper amount of time to write your book, each chapter should take no less than one weeks time. Why? The reason is because, first, you will sit down, gather all the content you know you want to write in the chapter, begin writing it according to the world-class chapter DNA, and then it is complete…for now. Just because someone writes words on a paper that add up to the length of a chapter, does not mean it is complete. Once written, it is time to shut down your computer and walk away from it for a day or two. The reason you do this is so you can come back and see more clearly later. After pouring out all of your brain power onto paper, your brain needs a break…this one to two day period will allow for this. Once you come back to the chapter you wrote, I guarantee you thoughts like these will flood your mind:

Ohhh…I need to expand on that topic.
I can add some research to back up this statement I made. (Which means you need to go do some research…which means more time.)
Oh! This needs to be deleted…it really doesn’t flow as well as I wanted it to.
Actually, I think this topic is better suited for this other chapter.
This chapter is a bit too long, and perhaps I can split it into two chapters.
There is a story that would fit well after this point I made.

Now, you more than likely won’t have all those thoughts every single time, but I assure you, when you look at your chapter with rested eyes and a rested brain, you will at least say one to two of those statements to yourself.

Next, once you believe you have the chapter perfected, you will want a group of 3-5 people who are willing to read the chapter and give you honest and proper feedback–constructive criticism. Most people aren’t going to jump on reading your chapter the moment you ask. Therefore, you need to set aside about two days for them to respond. One or some of them may give you feedback that will enhance the chapter…thus, sending you back for additional edits.

So, you see, this is just some of what to expect when writing a world-class book. Of course, there are other elements to consider that you will realize the more you learn. The question that truly remains is, How much time are you willing to invest in your readers? What do you want this book to do for you? Do you want it to make you stand out from all the 30, 60, and 90 day authors? Do you want your book to land you a $10,000 an hour speaking engagement? Do you want your book to put you on the pay to play platforms? If you want your book to land you the pay to play platforms, then a quick and easy book is the right fit for you. However, if you want to build, possess, and sustain an Empire, then commit no less than six to twelve months on writing your book.
